Americans love to travel and explore other areas of our beautiful country.  But due to the Federal marijuana prohibition and the wide variation of state marijuana rules, legal use of medical marijuana often stops at the Florida border.  It is a shame that all the benefits of marijuana have to be left at the state line.   There are exceptions to out of state prohibitions that you should be aware of.  Frist, there are 11 states that allow recreational marijuana use  (age 21 and over) and we will list them.  Second, there are 7 states that allow patients with cards from other states to purchase or use marijuana within their state borders.  

STATES THAT ALLOW ADULT USE MARIJUANA – State card not needed.

STATES THAT ACCEPT OUT-OF-STATE MEDICAL MARIJUANA CARDS: 

 

ARIZONA  

Arizona recognizes out of state medical cards as far as possession and usage but you cannot use state dispensaries.  Possession limit:  2.5 ounces of usable medical cannabis.  

ARKANSAS  

A “ Visiting Qualifying Patient” may use and purchase medical marijuana.  Possession limit:  2.5 ounces of usable medical cannabis every 14 days.  

HAWAII  

To purchase and use medical marijuana in Hawaii one must pay a fee of $49.50 and provide proof of your home state’s card.  You will then be able to purchase and use cannabis for a 60 day period in Hawaii.  Possession limit:  4 ounces of usable cannabis per 15 day period. 

NEW HAMPSHIRE 

Full access to dispensaries and legal usage.  Possession limit:  2 ounces. 

 OKLAHOMA 

Full access and usage of medical marijuana.  Possession and usage limits:  Up to 3 ounces of usable medical marijuana, up to 1 ounce of cannabis concentrate, up to 72 ounces of edible cannabis and up to 8 ounces of usable cannabis within a residence.   

RHODE ISLAND 

An out of state card is accepted if the following criteria is met:  Provide two forms of Government I;  must be in a state database that tracks sales (WA, OR, CA, NV, AK, HI, MT, CO, NM, AR, IL, MI, OH, PA, NY, MD, DE, RI, MA, & DC).  Possession limit:  2.5 ounces of usable medical cannabis or equivalent concentrate every 15 days. 

The regulations above are subject to change and should be verified by the user prior to visiting the appropriate state.
